Kiama area

Set amongst green rolling hills and pristine beaches, the picturesque Kiama area is a 90-minute drive south of Sydney. The area’s rural charm has been retained by farmland and a network of country and coastal towns where you can enjoy a relaxing break in an unspoilt setting.

Enjoy some family time at Jamberoo Action Park riding wild water rafts or laughing your way down water slides. Experience walking among the treetops on the Illawarra Fly or come to Kiama for the day and set yourself up in a picnic spot with memorable views of the coastline, Jamberoo Valley, Bombo Headland or a beach. We also have many award-winning cafes and restaurants with “must-photograph” views!

Seaside Kiama is home to the world’s largest blowhole, a natural spout of water that shoots up into the air with a “whoosh”, attracting a large crowd when the wind, waves and tides are pumping. Next to the visitor centre at the blowhole, the Pilot’s Cottage Museum tells the story of Kiama’s colourful past and is well worth a visit.

A great way to explore the area and enjoy the stunning natural attractions is along the 22-km Kiama Coast Walk which can take you from Minnamurra to Gerringong. Follow the walk at your own pace, taking time to soak up the ocean views, explore secluded beaches and bays and get side-tracked along the way.

With nine beaches to choose from in the Kiama area, you’ll be spoilt for choice.  Kendalls, Easts and Seven Mile beaches, along with many idyllic rock pools, provide perfect places to swim as they are usually protected from the big surf.

Further south, Gerringong is the quintessential Australian beach town, situated on a headland that offers panoramic views of the ocean and Werri Beach. The largest independent surf shop in Australia, Natural Necessity, is in Gerringong while nearby is the small coastal town of Gerroa, known for its major natural attraction, Seven Mile Beach National Park.

Inland is Jamberoo, an historic village located in a picture-perfect valley with country lanes and lush countryside. Enjoy lunch at the Jamberoo Pub, visit nearby Minnamurra Rainforest, the Illawarra Fly Treetop Walk or Jamberoo Action Park, the largest water-based theme park in NSW.

There are plenty of accommodation options in the Kiama area with options to suit travellers from a wide range of tastes and budgets.
